Ok! So today we were discussing bout a team and its organization.....
How do I participate in my team...rather how would I like my team to improve, and help improve in the process!
I thought I'd jot down some points ..... which I almost instantly recognised with upon reading [courtesy: Jiggy George/CN]
My team is.....
..... my family. We do not work with machines, but with human beings.
I would hire people.....
....who display a hunger and passion to leatn and do the job. Today's generation is precocious and smart. The star act doesn't work, one must be able to work in a team. Besides, the right attitude, honesty and integrity in my team -mates are more important than the ability to perform the job.
A manager needs to be enthusiastic and energetic.....
..... as this is infectious. Today, there is no -scope for a non-playing strategist manager. It's analogous to cricket, where the days of Michael Bearly are gone. Today, you need to be a Rahul Dravid or a Ricky Ponting. If you do not bat, you should not lead.
Money is not the only motivator .....
..... if it is, then we address it.
I belive leading a team at work .....
..... is quite like leading a sports team. As a manager, I am greatly influenced by Jose Mourinho manager of the Chelsea Football team. At work, it about the group dynamcs of a bunch of efficacious people rather than identifying and grooming individual stars [this is not to be totally neglected though] whose personal goals ultimately supersede those of a team of all-rounders, which is why most people in my team have good cross-functional abilities.
When people don't keep on track .....
..... the leader has not thought of the vision, which I think is a key deliverable for any leader. One has to dream up the road ahead and communicate this and get buy-in from the team. Then the focus should be on execution, which is to get the vision form paper to reality.
I push for entrepreneurship .....
..... With young resources possessing such high IQ and unbridled drive, the manager's role is very challanging as he has to encourage the an environment that is fun, yet challanging enough to excercise the innovative entrepreneurial spirit without ever losing the focus of the goal post.
