IBM moves carbon nanotubes closer to semi use with measurement technique Scientists at IBM have developed a technique to observe vibration and light at the nanoscale level, which is expected to help realize the use of carbon nanotubes as building blocks for ultra tiny computer chips of the future. Using the technique, researchers at IBM have measured the distribution of electrical charges in tubes of carbon measuring smaller than 2-nm in diameter--which is 50,000 times thinner than a human hair.
